Holiday Round Up

Mild temperatures and classic Southern charm make Charleston a great destination during the holiday season. This year, we invite you to share some of our favorite holiday traditions. Guests can feel right at home with the hotel’s holiday décor while enjoying festive Teddy Bear Tea or admiring the famous Christmas train (modeled after the Venice-Simplon Orient-Express).

Christmas Train

Christmas Train at Charleston PlaceThe Christmas Train has been an ongoing tradition at Charleston Place since 2001. The fully operational replica of the storied Venice-Simplon Orient-Express features more than 300-feet of model track, intricate hand-painted trees and a working ski lift, all nestled around a handcrafted eight-foot mountain – turning this continental sleeper train into a moving and whistling work of art for kids of all ages to enjoy.

Model train designer and enthusiast Lou Nappi’s commitment to the ongoing expansion of the train means more surprises are planned. Available for viewing beginning Wednesday, November 21st, the train operates daily from 9am to 10pm in the Charleston Place lobby. The Venice-Simplon Orient-Express has often been called the “king of trains and the train for kings,” how fitting for this king of miniatures.

Afternoon Tea Teddy Bear Tea will be held in the Thoroughbred Club at 1pm on Sunday, December 2nd, 9th and 16th. The afternoon will feature fantastic entertainment that includes magic and a live musician to perform holiday carols that fill the room with holiday spirit. Children will receive teddy bears upon entrance and are also encouraged to bring their favorite stuffed animals from home to partake in the fun! For an additional keepsake, a professional photographer will be on hand to capture your family during the festive event.

Parents may enjoy traditional tea service, while the teddy bear-toting set are welcome to their choice of hot chocolate, apple cider, apple juice, or milk. Beverages will be accompanied by an assortment of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, teddy-bear shaped scones and holiday cookies. The cost is $35 per person (plus tax and gratuity).
