Whether you’re sailing the ocean blue, playing tennis on the courts or strolling cobblestone sidewalks, it’s always important to wear sunscreen. With Charleston’s strong year-round rays, it’s essential to understand the consequences of skin damage and learn how to protect yourself.
This summer, The Spa at Belmond Charleston Place is proudly promoting its “I Will Reflect” campaign aimed to bring attention to the Melanoma Awareness and Prevention Initiative. This unique campaign features some of Charleston’s most prominent artists, stylists, entrepreneurs and tastemakers highlighting the significance of keeping their skin healthy.
Meet our Charleston ambassadors who have pledged to reflect, and find out how they plan to stay sun safe while enjoying life in the Lowcountry.
Andrea Serrano: Charleston based fashion blogger of Charleston Shop Curator, Andrea has impeccable taste and style. She believes that protecting your skin and keeping it healthy is the ultimate fashion statement.
Barbara Sussberg: Barbara is a talented oil painter who expresses feeling and emotion in her colorful and textured art. Often found painting in her garden South of Broad, she has pledged to make an effort to find a cool, shady spot away from the sun-rays and always wears a hat.
Chad Davis: Chad, founder of Carolina Surf Film Festival, always has fun in the sun.
An ocean lover and surfing addict, he makes sure to apply waterproof sunscreen before hitting the waves.
Cynthia Groseclose: You can probably find Cynthia editing stories in her magazine Salt and Water, surfing Sullivan’s Island’s waves or practicing yoga. She is also a cool and caring mom who has pledged to live a healthy life by lathering SPF on her son and herself before playing on the beach.
Jennifer Buddin: Jennifer is president of the local publication The Little Black Book for Every Busy Woman and an entertaining improver at Theatre 99. She has made the promise to seek shade with her two sons when playing outside.
Johnny Caldwell & Taneka Reaves: Known as the Cocktail Bandits, these two best friends love a refreshing drink. Whether sipping a Martini on a patio or strolling down King Street, Johnny and Taneka have pledged to socialize while protecting their skin at the same time.
Logan Roberts: A fishing aficionado and owner of Marsh Wear Clothing, Logan knows what apparel to wear to stay cool and sun safe. When outside on the water, he likes to sport his Salty Fly hat and a Tide Rider Performance shirt that holds natural SPF in the material.
